About Shawna

Shawna

Shawna first discovered the benefits of massage therapy while receiving treatment for a whiplash injury which resulted from an auto accident in 2003.  After graduating from Brenneke School of Massage, she began her own practice in bodywork while continuing her education in abdominal massage, deep myofascial work, craniosacral therapy, and other manual therapies.

Since starting her practice, Shawna has drawn from these many different modalities to create a style that is subtle, deep, and effective.  Her work focuses on craniosacral therapy, deep tissue, and myofascial techniques, and her approach involves treating the whole person with the basic intention of unwinding the tissues from patterns of strain and tension.  Shawna has developed an appreciation for the interdependence of one’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.  Her treatments help people find relief from various issues including pain and tension, depression and anxiety, pregnancy-related symptoms, insomnia, hormonal imbalance, and the effects of injury.  She helps her clients develop a stronger connection to their bodies and a more positive attitude towards their lives.

When appropriate, Shawna will refer clients to practitioners of acupuncture, naturopathy, yoga, ayurveda, chiropractic, and physical therapy to compliment their treatments.

“I have been receiving bodywork from Shawna for several years. She has helped me enormously with a variety of muscular problems. What I really like about her work is her gentle use of energy in addition to traditional massage. She is very intuitive. I feel that her work has been very beneficial for me, both as an Aikido teacher and as a clinical psychologist. I try to see her weekly or bi-weekly and I find her massage to be very restorative, for both my body and mind.”
